(Reuters) - Europe's biggest copper smelter Aurubis will invest around $700 million to build a smelter for complex recycling materials in North America, the company said on Wednesday.
Right now the company's mines in Mexico produce more semi-processed copper, known as concentrate, than its plants can handle, with the remainder shipped to smelters offshore.
The company will invest at least $26.3 million with the expansion of its copper manufacturing facility located in Shelby. The company plans to invest more than $50 million in infrastructure, equipment and working capital over the course of the project to build a new copper smelter plant, which will recycle and purify copper materials.
